Headies 2013 – The way Ninz would vote

Headies

It’s that time of year again; the Headies will soon be upon us.  The Hip Hop World Awards ( Headies) is Nigeria’s biggest music award show. The nominations list was revealed yesterday and I thought I would share my views on who I think should take home the award in each category. The qualifying period used is March 2012- June 2013…

The Awards will take place on December 26th 2013

So here it goes, this is how Ninz would vote if she was on the judging panel.. Let me know if you agree or disagree

^_^

Ninz

BEST RECORDING OF THE YEAR

  1. I WISH – WAJE
  2. GOOD MORNING – BRYMO
  3. NATURAL SOMETHING – SOUND SULTAN
  4. THIS YEAR – JAYWON

Brymo , would win hands down !! I still play this song every day, na it sweet pass. The lyrics, the beat, everything.. You just want to hold your boo and two step

PRODUCER OF THE YEAR

  1. PHEELZ – DUROSOKE
  2. DTUNES – SHO LEE
  3. DEL B – LIMPOPO
  4. LERIQ – LIKE TO PARTY
  5. LEGENDURY BEATS – EMI NI BALLER

This was a difficult one, the first four songs were on constant reply for the longest time. As we are talking about production I am going with Sho Lee , the drums alone get me moving

BEST MUSIC VIDEO

  1. ALINGO – JUDE OKOYE/CLARENCE PETERS
  2. OLIVER TWIST – SESAN
  3. GAGA CRAZY – AJE FILM WORKS
  4. AZONTO– MOE MUSA
  5. YES/NO – CLARENCE PETERS

P Square, know how to make creative videos and they didn’t disappoint with this one at all. I didn’t like the Azonto video, I thought it was way too busy and just late. I was already over the song by the time the video dropped.

BEST R&B/POP ALBUM

  1. IYANYA VS. DESIRE – IYANYA
  2. O.B.O. – DAVIDO
  3. R&BW – BANKYW
  4. BLESSED – FLAVOUR
  5. AWAY & BEYOND – 2FACE

This is based purely on the number of hits that have come from the album and for that reason I go with Davido

BEST R&B SINGLE

  1. GOOD GOOD LOVING – BANKYW
  2. LIKE TO PARTY – BURNA BOY
  3. RICH & FAMOUS – PRAIZ
  4. OMOTE – ESE PETERS

And they call him Burnnaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !! This song had summber vibe all over it

BEST POP SINGLE

  1. IHE NE ME – 2FACE
  2. The KICK – WANDE COAL FT DON JAZZY
  3. GOBE – DAVIDO
  4. CATCHING COLD – TUNDE EDNUT
  5. UR WAIST  – IYANYA
  6. GOODY BAG – D’PRINCE

Gobe , I am pretty sure even Davido didn’t anticipate how well this song would do *shakes Gobe*

BEST REGGAE/DANCEHALL SINGLE

  1. I WISH – WAJE
  2. RIHANNA – OREZI
  3. GIVE IT TO ME – GENERAL PYPE
  4. GO DOWN – BABA DEE

Even though the video was a disappointment, Rihanna was a tunee and received the most play out of all the nominees

BEST RAP ALBUM

  1. OGA BOSS – ILL BLISS
  2. THE SECOND COMING – VECTOR
  3. YBNL – OLAMIDE
  4. BOOK OF RAP STORIES – REMINISCE

Loool did you really have to guess who I was going to vote for? I am a YBNL soldier!! On a serious note YBNL has spurned the most hits out of all these nominees

BEST COLLABO

  1. GHOST MODE – PHYNO FT. OLAMIDE
  2. TONY MONTANA (REMIX) – NAETO C FT. D’BANJ
  3. BADDEST BOY – EME FT. WIZKID, SKALES & BANKYW
  4. EZIOKU – LYNXXX FT.  IKECHUWKU, ILL BLISS & PHYNO
  5. EMI NI BALLER – CHIDINMA FT. SUSPECT & ILL BLISS
  6. BABY MI DA (REMIX) – DR. VICTOR OLAIYA FT. 2FACE

Again, no surprises here! The reason why I think Ghost mode should win is because it was a perfect blend of indigenous rap. I have no idea what Phyno was saying but he flowed effortlessly

BEST RAP SINGLE

  1. MAN OF THE YEAR – PHYNO
  2. ANAM ACHI KWANU – ILL BLISS FT. PHYNO
  3. DUROSOKE – OLAMIDE
  4. 2 MUSSHH – REMINISCE
  5. GHOST MODE – PHYNO FT OLAMIDE

Same as above

BEST VOCAL PERFORMANCE (MALE)

  1. RICH AND FAMOUS – PRAIZ
  2. OMOTE – ESE PETERS
  3. DON’T LET GO – CAPITAL FEMI
  4. YES/NO – BANKYW

Praiz voice is EPIC ! Have you heard his cover of ‘Stay’, I can’t wait for this guy to blow

BEST VOCAL PERFORMANCE (FEMALE).

  1. I WISH – WAJE
  2. TOH BAD – NIYOLA
  3. IRAWO –  SEYI SHAY
  4. TOTALLY YOURS – ZAINA
  5. ONLY YOU – NIKKI LAOYE

The first time I really paid any attention to Waje was on her collaboration with M.I and I saw her perform live once. This woman can sannggggg , She just  really needs the right marketing team

NEXT RATED

  1. SEAN TIZZLE
  2. DAMMY KRANE
  3. BURNA BOY
  4. SEYI SHAY
  5. PHYNO

Due to the qualifying time period used time, this category is kind of pointless. As the majority have already blown, if this was last year Burna Boy would have won easily. For 2013 i would pick Sean Tizzle. However using the time perios specified , OluwaBurna takes it again.

HIP HOP WORLD REVELATION

  1. W.A.J.E – WAJE
  2. OMO BABA OLOWO – DAVIDO
  3. FRENZY – D’PRINCE
  4. THE YEAR OF R’N’B – CAPITAL FEMI

Davido , first Gobe then Skelewu … I am excited to hear what he has next up his sleeve

LYRICIST ON THE ROLL

  1. OLAMIDE – VOICE OF THE STREETS
  2. BOOGEY – SANCTUM
  3. MODE 9 – LET IT GO
  4. PHYNO – MAN OF THE YEAR

Olamide !!! Do you listen to this guy?? Lyrics tohhh bloody !!

BEST STREET-HOP ARTISTE

  1. TERRY G – RUN MAD
  2. DUROSOKE – OLAMIDE
  3. MY DEAR – DAMMY KRANE
  4. SKIBO – SOLID STAR
  5. ALAYE – LKT

Olamide !! This guy , there is a reason they call him Voice Of The Streets

BEST ‘ALTERNATIVE’ SONG.

  1. REPETE – BLACKMAGIC
  2. OMO PASTOR – AJEBUTTER FT. BOJ
  3. FEEL ALRIGHT – SHOW DEM CAMP FT. BOJ & POE
  4. THIS YEAR – JAYWON

Blackmagic!! I love how this guy uses alternative sounds and provides great hits. Repete was a summer jam

ALBUM OF THE YEAR

  1. IYANYA VS. DESIRE– IYANYA
  2. O.B.O. – DAVIDO
  3. R&BW – BANKYW
  4. BLESSED – FLAVOUR
  5. YBNL – OLAMIDE

Again I am basing this on the number of hits from that particular album and also the amount of plays . It’s a tie between Davido and Olamide . Based on number of plays alone it would go to Davido

ARTISTE OF THE YEAR

  1. IYANYA
  2. DAVIDO
  3. WIZKID
  4. FLAVOUR
  5. OLAMIDE
  6. ICE PRINCE

Wizkid , no he hasn’t dropped an album in the last year . However, with his endorsements, sold out shows, collaborations, music videos, and the whole star boy movement. Actually all I need to say he ‘ Jaiye ,Jaiye’ he is deffo the artist of the year

SONG OF THE YEAR

  1. DUROSOKE – OLAMIDE
  2. UR WAIST – IYANYA
  3. ALINGO – P-SQUARE
  4. SHO LEE – SEAN TIZZLE
  5. LIMPOPO – KCEE

This is my problem with the time frame used. Ur waist would be song of the year in 2012 now in 2013 it would have to be between Limpopo and Sho Lee.. Or maybe Duroksoke . I don’t know I am confused 😥

BEST AFRICAN ARTISTE

  1. R2BEES
  2. MAFIKIZOLO
  3. LIQUID DEEP
  4. SARKODIE
  5. MICASA

R2bees , that hit with Wizkid ….

There you have it , my views on who should win .

All the best to all the nominees !!!
